Each patchwork quilt is lovingly handmade, and with a little care, you can keep it looking beautiful and feeling cozy for years to come.
All of my quilts are prewashed before they reach their new homes, helping to give them that lovely, soft, crinkly feel from the very beginning. Here are a few simple tips to help you care for your special quilt.
Washing Your Quilt
-
Machine wash: Use a gentle cycle with cold water and a mild laundry detergent.
-
Wash with care: Wash your quilt separately or with similar colours to help prevent colour transfer.
-
Avoid harsh products: Please avoid bleach and harsh stain removers, as these may damage the fabric or affect the colours.
-
Gentle handling: Ensure there is enough room for your quilt to move freely in the washing machine.
Drying Your Quilt
-
Air drying: Whenever possible, lay your quilt flat or hang it over a suitable drying rack to air dry.
-
Tumble drying: If needed, use a low-heat setting and remove the quilt while it is still slightly damp to help minimise shrinkage.
-
Avoid high heat: High temperatures may cause the cotton fabrics to shrink or affect the quilt's shape. Do not iron.
Everyday Care
-
Spot clean small spills as soon as possible with a clean cloth and mild detergent.
-
Avoid pulling loose threads. If you notice one, carefully trim it with scissors without cutting into the stitching.
-
Store your quilt in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight to help preserve its colours.
A Little Note About Handmade Quilts
As each quilt is handmade from fabric, some natural fading or slight shrinkage may occur over time and with washing. These little changes are part of the character of a well-loved quilt.
